AI slop follows the same pattern as Jewish fables in Titus 1. Hear me out.
Cretans! always liars, evil beasts, lazy bellies!
The Cretans are natural hogs. Hogs consume slop. Notice that Paul infers because the Cretans are slothful and gluttonous, they will be tempted to go after Jewish fables that turn them aside from the truth:
…for which cause convict them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith, not giving heed to Jewish fables and commands of men, turning themselves away from the truth.
Being a lazy glutton means you have a disordered desire to consume. And the easiest way to consume is through the eyes and ears, not the mouth. Hence, you will go after stimulating falsehood rather than nutritious truth, just as you go after candy and coke rather than meat and potatoes.
Disordered consumption of the eyes and ears just is a desire to fill yourself with whatever pleases your flesh, rather than whatever pleases the Spirit. Which means you cannot care if it is false. Which means you just are a liar: i.e., a man who doesn’t care about truth.
People who care about truth work diligently to seek it; they are the opposite of slothful and gluttonous in their consumption of information. They are careful and restrained.
But the internet has made us all into Cretans. Everyone is both producing and consuming AI slop, mostly not caring that it’s inherently false: a fake, algorithmically-predicted average of various true things.
If the world is overrun with AI slop, it is because the world is filled with hogs.
